It is generally accepted that effective
Coaching delivers results because of the challenging and supportive relationship between the coach and coachee, complimented by the style of
communication used.
Cognitive
Behavioural Coaching (CBC) does not set out to provide people with the answers they seek but
does, through a process called ‘Guided Discovery,’ help them to reach their
own conclusions, goals and solutions. Like Cognitive Behavioural
Psychotherapy, CBC is time limited, goal-directed and focused on the here
and now. The ultimate goal of CBC is for individuals to become their own
coaches.
Planned booster sessions are available once the primary
coaching programme is completed. The problem solving mode utilised is
based upon the 7 step model developed by Wasik (1984):
1. Problem identification
2. Goal selection
3. Generation of alternatives
4. Consideration of consequences
5. Decision making
6. Implementation
7. Evaluation
CBC will helps individuals focus on problem-solving in a structured and
systematic way.
Individuals are encouraged to ‘pull out’ from themselves
problem solving strategies rather than have them handed to them by the
coach.
